It’s official! Part of the Western Sydney neighbourhood of Harris Park, which sits directly adjacent to Parramatta, is set to be renamed “Little India.”

A Bit About

Harris Park is a vibrant suburb located in Sydney’s ultra-diverse west. It is known for its rich cultural diversity and a thriving Indian community, which is reflected in the numerous Indian restaurants, grocery stores, and clothing boutiques found in the area. The suburb offers a unique blend of old-world charm and modern amenities, with its tree-lined streets and historic buildings alongside contemporary developments.

One of the highlights of Harris Park is its food scene, particularly its array of Indian cuisine. Long referred to unofficially to as “Little India” due to the abundance of Indian eateries offering a wide range of delectable dishes, from traditional curries and tandoori specialties to street food favourites like samosas and dosas. Where to Eat!?!

Walking up and down Wigram Street, the main drag of Harris Park, can be an overwhelming experience if you’re looking for a bite and don’t know where to start. The restaurants are countless and many specialise in particular dishes or regional cuisine. Here are a couple of our recommendations.

9 Flavours of Pani Puri

Short on time or just need a snack? Move over samosas, pani puri might just be India’s most common street food snack. It is a round, hollowed and fried flat-bread that is filled with assorted spices, mashed potato and chickpeas.

9 Flavours of Pani Puri is probably Wigram Street’s most famous venue for this iconic snack.

Zaika Indian Restaurant

Our choice for a sit down meal in Harris Park. Just a couple of doors up from 9 Flavours, you will find Zaika. At Zaika they offer the most perfect collision of sour, spicy, and sweet Indian Food in town.
